About the Deep Green Resistance News Service

The Deep Green Resistance News Service is an educational wing of the DGR movement. We cover a wide range of contemporary issues from a biocentric perspective, with a focus on ecology, feminism, indigenous issues, strategy, and civilization. We publish news, opinion, interviews, analysis, art, poetry, first-hand stories, and multimedia.

We have two main goals. First, we aim to give voice to the natural world. And second, we aim to give inspiration and skills so our readers can become active in defending the planet.

We are all familiar with the litany of horrors: forests are cut for agriculture and biofuels; oceans are clogged with fertilizer, plastics, and industrial waste; hundreds of species driven extinct daily; global warming; and on and on. This devastation has only continued to accelerate.

Yet people around the globe are standing together in resistance, fighting for their planet and for justice. This is not a pattern one can always glean from reading mainstream news sources. This is in large part because the mainstream media is controlled by many of the same corporations responsible for the problems we are facing.

The DGR News Service helps close this gap by providing news and commentary about the ecological disaster we find ourselves in, and about those fighting to stop it. Our site gathers together news stories from mainstream, alternative, and activist sources; essays by writers such as Derrick Jensen, Lierre Keith, and other DGR members and allies; videos of devastation and resistance; interviews with front-line activists; book and film reviews; and articles providing background on everything from historical resistance movements to the connection between patriarchy, overpopulation, and the destruction of the land.

Copyright Infringement

This site many contain copyrighted material the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. We are making such material available in our efforts to advance understanding of environmental, human rights, and scientific issues. In almost all cases, this constitutes a ‘fair use’ of any such copyrighted material as provided for in section 107 of the US Copyright Law. In accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. Under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing may be subject to liability for damages. One company that sent an infringement notification seeking removal of online materials that were protected by the fair use doctrine was ordered to pay such costs and attorneys fees under this provision. See http://www.eff.org/cases/online-policy-group-v-diebold. Case law states that “in order for a copyright owner to proceed under the DMCA with ‘a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law,’ the owner must evaluate whether the material makes fair use of the copyright.” Lenz v. Universal, 572 F. Supp. 2d 1150, 1155 (2008)
